Tutorial with Cecilia: Critical Thinking and Methodological Refinement

After completing my interview with the psychology expert, I had a tutorial with my supervisor Cecilia, during which we reviewed my report draft and discussed how to refine the upcoming Intervention 4.
This meeting marked a crucial transition in my research—from focusing on the psychological dimension of empathy to strengthening academic depth and methodological rigour.

1. Overall Evaluation

She began by affirming the overall quality of my report, describing it as “well-structured, logically coherent, and reflective of substantial research depth.”
She noted that I had successfully integrated theory, practice, and personal motivation, demonstrating both intellectual consistency and emotional resonance.
Her feedback gave me confidence to continue deepening the critical dimension of my study.

2. Key Direction 1: Enhancing Critical Thinking

She encouraged me to further strengthen the critical perspective within my writing.
She advised me to engage with viewpoints that differ from my own, presenting multiple interpretations of AI-generated visuals.

“Criticality doesn’t mean opposition—it means showing that you can understand and evaluate different positions.”
She suggested that I complement my argument with sources from ethics, psychology, or cultural critique to balance the technical and humanistic dimensions of my research.

After submitting the draft report, I conducted an interview with a psychology expert whose perspectives both validated and expanded my reflections. This additional dialogue helped me supplement Cecilia’s emphasis on “critical expansion” through a psychological lens.

3. Key Direction 2: Triangulation and Data Interpretation

Cecilia pointed out that my data analysis should not remain limited to verbal responses.
She suggested incorporating non-verbal behaviour (such as facial expressions, silence, and gestures) and applying triangulation to cross-compare emotional patterns.

“Compare what participants say and what they do—see if the emotional cues align.”
This made me realize that triangulation is not only a methodological tool but also a way to strengthen the credibility of creative research.
In my Intervention 4 design, I have therefore included observation of audience expressions and body language to capture non-verbal emotional reactions more systematically, improving both the reliability and completeness of my data.

4. Personal Reflection and Conclusion

She encouraged me to reflect: “Has your relationship with AI changed throughout this project?”
She also reminded me that the conclusion of the report should directly answer the research question and close the logical loop.
This made me realize that reflection is not an appendix but a crucial space for knowledge generation.
Cecilia’s guidance helped me clarify how to scientifically analyse and present emotional data, and made me aware that the meaning of this research lies not only in recording the relationship between humans and AI, but also in continuously reflecting on my own position and judgment within that relationship.

Key Takeaways

  • Introduce contrasting perspectives to enhance critical thinking;
  • Apply triangulation to integrate emotional, behavioural, and visual data;
  • Treat reflection as an essential process of knowledge creation.
