To better understand how designers perceive the role of AI in communicating Chinese aesthetics, I conducted a small-scale survey titled “AI × Design × Chinese Aesthetics”. The respondents included students, freelance designers, brand creatives, and design researchers from both China and overseas.
Key Findings:
1. Use of AI in Design Practice
- Frequently: ~25%
- Occasionally: ~60%
- Never: ~15%
➡️ This suggests AI is becoming a natural part of creative workflows.
2. Attitudes Toward Chinese Aesthetics
- “Interesting and full of potential” – over 70%
- Some mentioned concerns over stereotyping or difficulty in accurate representation.
➡️ This supports the idea that Chinese aesthetics needs new, contemporary ways of expression—and not just nostalgic or kitsch representations.
3. Would You Try an AI Platform Focused on Chinese Aesthetic Design?
- Definitely: ~65%
- Maybe: ~35%
- Not interested: 0%
➡️ Clear evidence of strong user demand for such a platform.
4. What Functions Do Designers Want in an AI Tool? (Open question synthesis)
- The ability to generate culturally rich patterns and silhouettes
- Avoid stereotypical or cliché “oriental” looks
- Easy interface without the need for perfect prompts
- Support for different body types and skin tones
- Smart guidance based on aesthetic systems like Chinese color theory
How This Supports My Project
This survey directly strengthens the core of my project: that there is both creative desire and practical demand for an AI-powered platform like LavieAI to serve as a cultural translator—one that helps reimagine Chinese fashion in a way that’s globally resonant and visually adaptive.
| Key Direction | User Feedback | Project Alignment |
|---|---|---|
| Integrating AI into design | Already happening or welcomed | ✅ |
| Reimagining Chinese aesthetics | Seen as valuable but tricky | ✅ |
| Cultural accuracy in AI generation | Strongly desired | ✅ |
| Interest in new tools | Universally positive | ✅ |
| Desire for non-stereotypical outputs | Fully aligned | ✅ |
These responses show that AI in design is not just about automation—but about cultural dialogue, creative freedom, and accessibility. I see LavieAI as a step toward this intelligent, respectful future.
